The NFL Draft is where the best college football prospects go to have a chance at achieving their dream; playing in the NFL.The NFL draft is an ‘athletic assessment’ for incoming NFL players to give coaches a hint at what their strengths and weaknesses are. This helps teams choose the player best suited for them. Usually, only about 1-2 records are broken per Combine, if that, but this year’s came with a whole new wave of athleticism.
For starters, quarterback Taylen Green broke three records at the combine for his position. He ran the fastest 40 yard dash of any QB so far, he took 4.36 seconds to finish the dash beating previous record holder, Robert Griffin III, by 0.05 second. Green also broke the vertical jump record with a jump of 43.5 inches, beating the previous record holder, Anthony Richardson, by a whole 3 inches. His broad jump also beat Richardson, measuring at a jaw-dropping 11 feet and 2 inches.
Other record breakers include the Styles brothers, Sonny and Lorenzo. Lorenzo ran a 4.27 second 40 yard dash, breaking the record for safeties. Sonny ran a 4.46 second 40 yard dash, which was the fastest out of all the other linebackers there. Sonny also boasts a 43.5 inch vertical, which was a new combine record. Other players such as D-Angelo Ponds and Kenyon Sadiq also attained a 43.5 inch vertical jump. Sadiq also broke the 40 yard dash time for his position, tight end, crossing the mark in just 4.39 seconds.
