Google and Meta are requiring politicians to disclose if they are using any ads on the tech platforms and are banning deep fakes that are meant to trick voters. People have even started using chatbots to make their election ads because it has started to make professional looking exams, photos, writing, and even audio. For example, one person had a fake video of Trump hugging Coronavirus advisor Anthony S. Fauci, and another person admitted they used AI generated audio to fake the prime minister’s voice. Although these rules will apply to election ads, they will not apply to normal videos on YouTube. The reason that this is very concerning is because chatbots and Dall-E have let people make their opponents look bad or make people say things they didn’t.
People haven’t only been using AI to fake election ads though. They have also been using AI to scam people. People can fake the caller’s voice and make it seem like it is from a family member. Some signs of a scam are: 1. If they pressure you into doing something immediately. 2. If they use scare tactics or enticing offers. 3. If they say something too good to be true. 4. If they ask for your credit card number or a very big amount of money. People can fake pretty much anyone’s voice. The scammers try to put you into fight or flight mode, so if someone you know does this saying they need money now, slow down and see what they are talking about.
