Artificial Intelligence has been used in games since the 1980s, however, as of recently, digital characters using A.I. have been displaying self-awareness, which is very different from anything we’ve had in the past. In a video game version of “The Matrix,” characters seem to be gaining sentience with the help of an A.I. program. This unnerving game demo was released 2 years ago by an Australian tech company named Replica Studios, and it demonstrates just a small amount of the potential power artificial intelligence can actually hold.
But first, what is Artificial Intelligence? In simple terms, A.I. is the branch of computer science that is dedicated to creating machines that are capable of thinking like humans. It focuses on taking the human abilities of understanding, reacting, and reasoning, and incorporating them into computers and other devices.
Over the past couple of years, A.I. has been rapidly improving and surpassing humans in math, coding, and even medical diagnosis, and it’s advancing every single day. It’s an exciting form of tech with a variety of benefits to offer, so it’s no wonder companies are embracing the innovative technology.
Some examples of benefits that come with the use of Artificial Intelligence are:

- Boosted economic growth
- Scientific discovery
- Improved agriculture
- Advanced transportation
However, some might argue that A.I. is developing too far too fast, and that there are too many opportunities for A.I. to go terribly wrong.
