October Science Project - Baking Soda Vinegar Balloons

WARNING: Make sure to do the following project with an adult for extra precaution.

To Make Baking Soda Vinegar Balloons, you will need:

  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Empty Plastic Water Bottle
  • Balloon
  • Teaspoon Measurement
  • Funnel (This is optional, but helpful)
  • Food Coloring (This is optional, but fun!)

Instructions:

  1. Blow the balloon up a little bit. This will make it easier to add the baking soda.
  2. Use the funnel and teaspoon to add baking soda to the balloon. Use two teaspoons.
  3. Fill the empty bottle halfway with vinegar. Add some food coloring!
  4. When you are done with steps two and three, attach the balloon to the bottle, making sure you have a good seal. Make sure not to flip the balloon fully upside down when attaching the two, or else the baking soda will go into the bottle too soon!
  5. Then lift up the balloon. This action dumps the baking soda into the vinegar! Watch as your balloon inflates!
