Shadow of COVID on Schools

Shadow of COVID on Schools

Elizabeth Robbins, Reporter

Schools play a major role in children’s’ lives. They learn academic and social skills at school that they can’t learn anywhere else. So, when schools closed or went online due to COVID-19, there was a big question, will/how much will this affect kids socially and academically? Now we are starting to see how COVID-19 affected schools. Some of the biggest effects were depression increased and kids lost a year in reading, writing, and math. Due to this high school seniors are less likely to continue onto college, and middle schoolers (Once they get to high school) and high school students are more likely to dropout of high school. While we may not be seeing these effects quite yet they will become more prominent in the years to come.
