Caitlin Clark: A Rising Star

Caitlin Clark: A Rising Star

Elizabeth Robbins, Reporter

Caitlen Clark plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes and has dominated the NCAA tournament! During March Madness she averaged 31.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 10 assists. She set tournament records (some in both mens and womens) for points, assists, and 3 pointers. Clark’s childhood dream was to get to the final four, and she did this and also got to the finals! She not only did this but she got 3 player of the year awards, and created a new thing, The Clark Ratio. TV broadcasts tracked how many of Iowa’s points and assists she had, and those numbers kept getting higher by the game. One of the most impressive things she did was she got a 41 point triple-double in the semi-final game against previously unbeaten South Carolina. She celebrated by doing the you can’t see me hand gesture. Which later in the championship would cause controversy when LSU star Angel did it back to her. In the semi-final game she also outplayed the WNBA No.1 draft pick Aliyah Boston with ease. This showed just how amazing she is. Since Clark is gaining fame she is gaining followers on social media. She is also one of the biggest reasons that the game had 9.9 million viewers, this most for a women’s NCAA championship game. In the championship game she was the leading scorer with 30 points and 8 three pointers. Her three pointers are insane! She shoots from the logo, half court, and with someone one her! There are no other women in womens basketball with this skill! She is being compared with some of the greats, Steph Curry and Magic Johnson. Even though is an insane shooter, she is arguably an even better passer. She rockets balls in for her other teammates with insane aim. Clark in an interview said that a really important part of being a good basketball player is having the maturity to come back after a bad loss but also coming back after the best game of your life. She said that you need to be able to relax and chill out after playing amazing!
