Flash Fiction – February

Flash+Fiction+-+February

Kassidy Brackett, Reporter

Emaline Baker was a normal girl with a normal life. She was ten years old and ready to take on the world! Emaline’s friends called her Emma, because apparently Emaline was too long. Emma had a dog named Trevor, a cat named Beatrice, and an older brother; Robin Baker. Ironically, her parents; Wanda Baker and Evan Baker, owned a bakery. She had three best friends: Fern, Roberta, and Vincent. They always played together at recess, and had the best time together. Emaline’s life seemed very normal, however there was one secret that made her life extraordinary. She had the gift to make people fall in love. She was just like a human cupid! The only person she told was her best friend, Fern.

Emma looked at her calendar. It was the 13th of February, which meant that tomorrow was Valentine’s Day! She knew what that meant; CANDY! She raced to school with a bag of candy for her classmates! She received lots of candy from her friends as well! She looked through her candy to see one from Fern! There was a note attached to the candy with frantic handwriting. It said that she accidentally let her secret slip to one person, but they told other people, and the secret spread fast. “Oh no!” Emma exclaimed, “I don’t know what they’re gonna do now that they know…”

She found out soon enough. So many people came up to her and asked if she could make someone fall in love with them. When she refused, they got mad, so Emma eventually gave in to all of them. It turned out to be a disaster. For example, Percy made Emma make Camila fall in love with George, but then Harry made Emma make George fall in love with him, and there were so many different problems with it. Everything was mixed up and messed up. To make things worse, the spells were wearing off! However, some people’s feelings still remained. Many people realized that they didn’t need a love spell to make someone love them! Just be yourself, and many people will love you for you! Emma stopped making people fall in love with each other because so many people already loved them, and they didn’t need a spell for that. Also, you should never force someone to love you, be yourself, and if they can’t love you for you, then it’s their loss!
