April Science Project – Lava Lamp

April 26, 2022
WARNING: Make sure to do the following project with a parent for extra precaution.
To Make a Lava Lamp You Will Need:
- A clean plastic bottle, try using one with smooth edges
- Water
- Vegetable Oil
- Fizzing Tablets (e.x. Alka-Seltzer)
- Food Coloring
- Flashlight
Instructions:
- Fill the bottle up with about ¼ with water.
- Pour some vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full. You might want to use a funnel. You might have to wait a few minutes for the water and oil to separate.
- And a few drops of your food coloring. Watch as the color sinks through the oil.
- Break your fizzy tablet in half and drop part of it into the tablet.
- Grab a flashlight, turn off the lights, and drop the other half in! This time shine the flashlight through the lava lamp as the blobs float around!
