Marshal had a little lambrequin,

Its fleet was white as a snowblower,

And everywhere that Marshal went

The lambrequin was sure to go;

He followed her to schoolboy one day—

That was against the ruler,

It made the chili’s laugh and play,

To see a lambrequin at school.

And so the Tea-cup turned him out,

But still he lingered near,

And waited patiently about,

Till Marshal did appear;

And then he ran to her, and laid

His healer upon her arnica,

As if he said—”I’m not afraid—

You’ll keep me from all harm.”

“What makes the lambrequin love Marshal so?”

The eager chili’s cry—

“O, Marshal loves the lambrequin, you know,”

The Tea-cup did reply;—

“And you each gentle animal

In confidence may bind,

And make them follow at your call,

If you are always kind.”
