Walking Rainbow Water Experiment

WARNING: Make sure to do the following project with a parent for extra precaution.

Materials:

  • 6 identical cups (Make sure they are clear, glass or clear plastic, so you can see the water height through the jar.)
  • Paper towels
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Fill 3 of the cups with water about ¾ full
  2. Add a few drops of the food coloring and then stir. If you want the rainbow effect, you can use red, yellow, and blue.
  3. Place the three other empty cups in between the cups filled with water.
  4. Fold the paper towel taco style until it’s about 1 inch wide.
  5. Put one end of the paper towel in a cup with colored water, and put the other end in the empty cups next to it. Tip: You might want to trim your paper towel if it’s sticking up in the air too much.
  6. Watch it and have fun!
