Covid-19 Vaccine

Juliet Slater, Reporter

Covid-19 has been affecting many families and countries worldwide for almost a year now, and we have just now come out with a vaccine that may stop the spread of Covid-19. More than 100,000 cases each day and 1.32  million people worldwide have died. The percentage of positive tests in Colorado is 13%, however scientists say that it should be around 5%. Hopefully the vaccine can help bring these numbers down and make things normal again. The Covid-19 vaccine was developed by the companies Pfizer and BioNTech. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) the United States are hoping to deliver safe vaccines that work before the end of 2020. When the vaccine has been  authorized or approved in the United States, there is still the problem of quantity. Even when the vaccine is available, there may not be enough doses available for all adults. Another problem with the Covid-19 vaccine is that it  may not be available for young children until more studies are completed. The new vaccine also has some problems being stored. The vaccine has to be stored at -94 degrees fahrenheit. Typical freezers don’t get that cold, making distribution of this vaccine very difficult. Many rural areas do not have the money to buy expensive freezers as they can cost up to 10,000 and 15,000 dollars. Although there are many problems surrounding the new Covid-19 vaccine, hopefully by next winter things will be back to normal.
