Calling all Swifties! Taylor Swift announced her 12th album and it is expected to drop October 3rd (which adds up to her favorite number, 13, and is unofficially National Boyfriend Day)! At 12:12 a.m on August 12th., she declared her album’s name, The Life of A Showgirl, and left few further details as her other cryptic teasers. Fans speculate and make theories about what The Life of A Showgirl may bring after “Easter eggs” were sprinkled throughout her social media pages, and her internet-breaking guest appearance alongside her boyfriend on his podcast New Heights.
The album is prophesied to have a slightly upbeat tone with “infectious melodies” because it is produced by the same artists that collaborated on making some of her most popular work: Red, 1989, and Reputation. It will include 12 songs with a rumored bonus 13th track. Singer Sabrina Carpenter is also featured on the title track. The Life of A Showgirl was made during the European leg of the Eras Tour in Sweden. In the final show of the Eras Tour in Vancouver, Canada, Taylor Swift burnt down the Lover House that represented her career, and then walked through an orange door during the Eras Tour, meaning she’s only entering a new era, not abandoning music. “This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” Taylor Swift says on New Heights.
Social- media-wise, Taylor Swift posted exactly 12 images captured at different stops on the Eras Tour and featured the color orange in each outfit of hers. On the last set of the Eras Tour, she is also seen walking through an orange door. Her team baited with titles like, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’” Every album of hers corresponds with a heart emoji, such as a white heart for most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department. This time, it’s the flaming heart emoji! For this new album, on her personal website, she has made several glittery CD and vinyl variants with special addition posters and poems for collectors. For the album cover shoot, Taylor Swift wears an outfit created by world-renowned costume designer, Bob Mackie, who has designed showpieces for Cher, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross among others. While you’re waiting for The Life of A Showgirl, you can hype yourself up for the new era by listening to Taylor Swift’s spotify playlist named, “And, baby, that’s showbusiness for you.”
