In May comes the annual Met Gala, which raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume wing. “Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has made Superfine: Tailoring Black Style its spring 2025 Costume Institute exhibition, the look soars across notions of style, making its way into politics, race, social dynamics, gender, sexuality, and class. But it all leads back to fashion and self-presentation as a tool for resistance and distinction. ‘A dandy is defined as someone who ‘studies above everything else to dress elegantly and fashionably,’ as it reads on the wall that opens the exhibition.” (W magazine)
Here are some of the favorite looks from the evening.
Diana Ross, whose 18-foot train required several people to assist her up the stairs, and her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.
Lupita Nyong’o wore a mint green Chanel three-piece suit. This hints at a lot of the evening’s trends: a tie, a boater hat and a brooch.
Serena Williams followed the night’s trends with a dramatic train. Her dress included a ruched top that also cut a dramatic, long shape.
Sculpted curls were also a trend that night. Bad Bunny’s swoop poked out from his wiker bow hat.
A personal favorite of mine being Doechii’s full Louis Vuitton outfit, accessorized with a cigar.
FKA Twigs arrived at the Met Gala wearing a Wales Bonner dress with feather details.
André 3000 stole the red carpet with a jumpsuit and a peano strapped to his back.
Not only these but tons of other celebrities shined on the Met Gala carpet, making this a year to remember.
