On April 14th, Katy Perry was part of an all-female crew that recently launched and landed in a rocket operated by Jeff Bezo’s Blue Origin company. Along with Katy, other celebrities aboard the rocket include Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. This flight gained a considerable amount of attention since it was the first all-female spaceflight since 1963.
After weeks of intense anticipation, the rocket took off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas at 9:30 a.m. Thousands of people joined Blue Origin’s online livestream to watch the full journey from launch to landing, while some settled to watch in person. During the stream, the crew spent several minutes in admiration and total amazement, marveling at the shining moon. Perry brought a small flower on the flight in honor of her daughter Daisy.
On the trip back down, the crew could be heard screaming excitedly as the rocket parachutes opened. “Congratulations, and welcome back to Earth,” mission control said as the crew settled back on the ground. The final flight only lasted 10 minutes and 21 seconds.
Just a few minutes after, the door opened and all six women exited the rocket. Some were crying and pumping their fists, while others knelt down to touch the ground with their own hands. During a later interview, Katy stated that she felt “super connected to love” and was extremely inspired by the space trip. When asked, Perry also stated that she would definitely be writing a song about her astronomical experience.
