Michael Jordan was considered as one of the greatest to play basketball. Many people believe that he is the best ever to play. Michael Jordan is suing NASCAR for alleged “anti-competitive practices to prevent fair competition in the sport.” An example of this is that NASCAR gives some teams monetary guarantees and some of their revenue split among teams.
NASCAR is a stock car auto racing. They race all over the country with 12 to 16 drivers competing. NASCAR races last for multiple hours. The endurance of these racers are incredible! The cockpit of the car reaches 100 to 140 degrees fahrenheit. The amount of force you have to press the brakes and turn the wheel is much more than the usual family car.
It’s getting near the end of the season. William Byron is in 1st with 3122 points and right behind him is Christopher Bell with 3105 points. With a very close 3rd is Kyle Larson with 3100 points. There are 5 races left in the season, the Bank of America Roval 400, the South Point 400, the Homestead-Miami Speedway, Xfinity 500 and finally the NASCAR Cup Series Championship.
Michael Jordan is claiming that NASCAR is a monopoly. Rigging the competitions so some teams are automatically in some competitions. If this lawsuit goes through it can completely change NASCAR forever. The Daytona race alone generates 15% of NASCAR’s revenue. NASCAR wants some teams to have a spot in the race due to sponsorship.
Jordan believes that for the love of the sport, it should be a fair competition. The judge will hear this case on November 4th. Michael Jordan said that “I did it for the smaller teams as well. It’s not just me. I think everybody should have an opportunity to be successful in any business.” If NASCAR loses the lawsuit they might see a dip in revenue.
