Unfortunately, British actress Maggie Smith died on September 27, 2024 at the age of 89. She peacefully passed early that morning in the hospital.
Cause of death: While no cause of death was shared, there were some things that most likely contributed to her passing. In 1988, she was diagnosed with Graves disease and later with breast cancer around 2009. Not only that, but in 2016, she underwent hip replacement surgery and in the same year announced that she had glaucoma in one eye. During one interview she said, “forgive me for looking at you like this. It’s because I’m blind in one eye.” She unfortunately had two sons and five grandchildren, who are all deeply mourning her loss.
Earlier life: Maggie Smith was born Ilford, England in 1934, but grew up in Oxford, England. She made her stage debut in a local theater as a teenager, which then led to a very successful career, winning Oscar, Tony, Golden Globe awards and more. She also won three Emmy awards for her role as Violet Crawly in Downton Abbey.
Popular acting roles: One of Maggie Smith’s most popular acting roles was playing Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series. Some other popular movies she starred in were Downton Abbey, The Secret Garden, Sister Act, and many more.
British actress, Maggie Smith was featured in many popular movies, and is someone who has had a large influence on many’s lives. With her death which occurred on September 27, 2024, her two sons and five grandchildren are all deeply mourning her loss, and so are her many fans who have supported her all through her acting career.
