Presidential campaigns typically start a long, long while before the day of election. In longer campaigns, voters can find out as much as they can about the candidates before they make their choice. Candidates can get used to answering questions, giving speeches, and debating with a longer candidacy, so that they get used to it by the time of the elections.
However, for this election, things are different. Current vice president Kamala Harris started her campaign only a few months ago, when President Joe Biden dropped out of candidacy. This has revealed some benefits to shorter campaigns.
Lengthy campaigns that drag for years can bore voters. A long period of political bickering and quarreling can leave citizens doubtful or uninterested in the election. A shorter campaign gets voters enthusiastic about the upcoming election. It saves a boatload of money that would otherwise be spent in massive amounts on political advertisement.
The short campaign has been benefiting Kamala Harris as the election approaches. It can be debated whether this process should continue for further elections.
