Sora AI has been recently announced to the public by Open AI. This new AI model is able to create photorealistic videos with texture, movement, lighting, and design- making it quite difficult to discern from real footage at times. The model uses text prompts to generate the videos.  Open AI has just recently released test videos to the public. This has brought up both excitement and concern. Some believe that this is an incredible development and will lead to new discoveries of AI in the future. On the other hand, many believe that this will only bring harm.

This program can make fantastical imaginary worlds come to life, but it can also ruin this one. These realistic videos can lead to forged court evidence, and deep fakes of crimes that weren’t committed. This could lead to countless accusations of innocent people- with proof. This footage could end up being a huge wrench thrown into the judicial system all over the world, and could possibly ruin the lives of many.

Apart from the judicial system, many animators could end up losing their jobs to AI generators. Part of the issues discussed in the SAG-AFTRA strike was protection against AI for actors, writers, and animators. Increase in usage of AI video generation could lead to shortcuts in animation studios, and eventually to large layoffs in these studios, eliminating important jobs for these artists. 

On the other hand, this software could be incredibly useful for many, and simply astonishing to see that this technology is possible. The immense progress and development necessary to achieve this program is notable. So many minds have worked for a long time for this achievement, and the hard work is apparent. Although we must consider if the pros or cons are greater.
