As the case against Trump’s Presidential candidacy continues, so do the complications. Many months of legal battles and issues have ensued regarding the legitimacy of Trump’s candidacy in this year’s election(as discussed in past articles). After several recent rulings against the former president, the case has made its way to the Supreme Court.
Jack Smith, the special prosecutor for the case had specifically requested for the case to go directly to the Supreme court due to its urgency, although the appeal was denied by the court. This delay is seeming to lean in the favor of Trump in the upcoming election. This delay grants him his name on the ballot, and also shifts focus from the issues that he is currently facing. As opposed to dealing with the legal issues at the time of the primaries, this pushback has allowed for a shift in focus, and less of a spotlight on any legal complications.
It was speculated that the timing of the court cases would completely destroy his candidacy, whether he ended up on the ballot or not by the end of the case. Although this delay lifted most of the public pressure, and most likely revamped his chances on the ballot.
At the moment, there is not a predicted outcome for the Supreme Court case, although it is likely to rule against the former president due the other cases over the past few months.
