Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a book series written by Rick Rioridan. The series includes 6 books. The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian, and the newest book, The Chalice of the Gods. 

The Show 

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Premiered on December 19th, 2023 on Disney and Hulu was the first and second episode. The next episodes have been released on the past Tuesdays and will continue until the 8th episode that airs January 30, 2024. The show is starring Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. There will be 8 episodes, I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher, I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom, We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium, I Plunge to My Death, A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers, We Take a Zebra to Vegas, We Found Out the Truth, Sort Of, and The Prophecy Comes True. 

What Critics Think

The series is already enjoyed and loved, but the tv show is also a huge hit. It has a 96% on the Tomatometer and 84% on the average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Disney even stated that it had about 13.3M views in 6 days! Not only was it a huge success, but according to IMDB “The series garnered record-setting viewership, becoming the most watched premiere of any Disney Branded Television offering. ” Which makes it one of the top tv show premieres of 2023 for Disney. 

Comparison to the Movies

Percy Jackson and the Olympians the show and Percy Jackson and the Olympians the movies have had many comparisons. Many people have said that it was “ A flop in every way imaginable.” (Paste Magazine) And the author himself even shared contempt about the movies, leading to the campaign for a better version. As for the show, it has already gotten so much more good reviews compared to the movie. 

In each episode, they do a spectacular job at portraying the story in the book, as well as the stories of others such as Thalia and Medusa. It brings comedy, mythology, and much more into an amazing story.
