Many Americans consider moving to Canada after political events, such as the 2016 presidential election, the tense debate between Trump and Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election, and the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Many Americans feel that Canada is a safer place than the U.S, with less polarizing views, violence, and expensive healthcare.
The people that actually moved to Canada between 2015-2023, about 80,000, found that while most of the reasons they moved held true, there are issues with healthcare. First of all, there are extremely long waitlists, which can be longer than a year. Shortages in staff and medical supplies have been straining the Canadian healthcare system and lengthening waitlists. Also, it is important to note that healthcare is not really free, but paid with higher taxes by Canadian’s citizens.
While Canada is doing better at managing violence, political polarity, health care, and more than the U.S, it also definitely has its own issues with its system to work through.
