Rosalynn Carter, wife of Jimmy Carter for 77 years, passed away at 96 on Sunday, November 12th, at her home with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband, 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
She kept an active role as first lady, often campaigning for and representing President Carter, attending cabinet meetings, and served as the emissary to Latin American countries. She also supported her own views, supporting the performing arts during her term as first lady, as well as mental health. In 1978 she served as the Honorary Chairperson of the President’s Commision on Mental Health. After her term as first lady, she spent her life working in the humanitarian field.
Rosalynn Carter had 3 scheduled funeral services. One took place on Monday, November 27th, with a motorcade starting from the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia at 10:25 a.m, and ending at Jimmy Carter Presidential Library Museum at 3:35 p.m. A funeral service at the museum took afterward, with the public invited to pay respects at the service and the motorcade.
On Tuesday, November 28th, a motorcade departed from the Carter Presidential Center at 11:30 a.m, with a tribute service at Glenn Memorial Church from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Lastly, a funeral service is took place on Wednesday, November 29th with a funeral procession and memorial for family and friends to taking place at Maranatha Baptist Church from 11:00 to 12:30, after which her casket was transferred to a hearse and departed for private interment at the Carter family residence.
