Most moms and dads believe the right age to have any sort of social media is 13 years old. But it almost seems 13 is the worst age to have social media. Being a teen is hard enough as is, but for a lot of teens adding social media to the daily struggle is a big mistake. For some teens it’s not a big deal. I interviewed some Flagstaff students on their opinions of social media, and this is what they said…
“After scrolling on social media for a long period of time I feel sad. I almost feel like I failed. A lot of the time I wonder if things would be better without social media.” (Addison Campbell 7th grade) I’m sure lots of people can relate to this feeling of disappointment after scrolling on social media for hours.
On a different note a Girl in 7th grade says she enjoys having social media and likes the creativity that it allows her to have. She also loves being able to talk to her friends as she says “Text just isn’t the same as snapchat. Snapchat is better”
One more perspective is the people that don’t have social media. Lilly Martinas in 6th grade has a phone but no social media. She feels left out because most of her friends have social media and she desires the social aspect that social media provides. Lilly is aware of the impact social media has on a teen but she believes she can handle it, and she won’t let it get to her head.
It’s safe to say there are many opinions on social media and depending on the person it can make you feel bad about yourself and make you stressed. What do you think of social media? Do you have any social media? Do you dislike or like having it?
