“What The Dog Knows” by Cat Warren could be your next great read. It is believed that dogs’ noses are between 1,000 to 10,000 times more powerful than ours, but they might be even more powerful than we believe. Many dogs today are trained as search and rescue dogs to locate missing people but this book follows the training of a first time handler and her puppy Solo as she trains him as a cadaver dog. Cadaver dogs are similar to search and rescue dogs except they are used on searches where victims are already presumed dead. This can be important in both finding closure for the families and helping police solve these cases. Cadaver dogs have helped put many criminals behind bars but they could be even more powerful than we thought.
