Colorado University lost 11 out of 12 games last year. They have made a comeback this season, and are winning 3-0! This has largely been attributed to their new head coach, Deion Sanders, who came from Jackson State University in December last year. Sanders brought his two sons with him, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, as well as Travis Hunter. Shedeur, as quarterback, threw big numbers at JSU and continues to throw big numbers at CU, throwing over 1000 yards so far. Hunter has been playing both offense and defense, almost unheard of in modern football. Sanders also invited players to come in through the transfer portal, eventually getting over 50 more players. While he has been criticized for refreshing the whole roster, his approach has worked so far. Coach Prime, as Sanders is nicknamed, created a wave of belief and hype in CU football, but it was still in question whether he and the team would live up to that hype.
CU proved they could live up to the expectations when they beat Texas Christian University, the team that lost to Georgia last year in the college championship, CU winning 45-42. They have continued to prove that they can win after beating Nebraska 36-14, and CSU in double overtime. CU’s football has exploded with popularity after this, with merchandise sales up 819% from last year!
