Superior Target Reopening after the Marshall Fire
September 13, 2022
Ten months ago the Marshall Fire burned down houses in Louisville, Superior, Boulder County, and the surrounding areas. Over 1,000 structures were burned down. The fire burned 6,200 acres. Those 1,000 structures were businesses, families houses, and communities. Not only were many structures burned, but two people were found dead. There are still lots of lasting effects from the Marshall fire, many people are still without homes, but because of the Marshall Fire we were able to see the good in humanity. People donated items that others were in need of, they shared their homes, and provided food for the people who lost their homes. Another show of the community together is that the Target in Superior opened on August 30th. Before the target opened people tailgated outside and celebrated the target reopening, celebrating getting closer to normal after the Marshall fire. The roof of the target was damaged and the heat set off the store’s fire suppression system. The suppression system went off for days before they were shut off. Almost all of the merchandise was destroyed. After eight months, to the day after the Marshall fire caused the Target to close at 7 am on August 30th shoppers flooded into the target.
For many people, this reopening is a major sign of hope. People who lost their homes to the fire are finally starting to get back on their feet. Some people complained that the Target took an unnecessary amount of time to reopen, but the staff reassured everyone that they were simply tying up loose ends and making sure that their store was in perfect condition. Due to both fire and water damage, it took more time than foreseen for the construction crew to clean everything up. According to store employees, they ended up entirely gutting the target in order to rid the space of any remnants from the fire.
